hi there

I’M SO GLAD YOU’RE HERE!

My story could not be told without the people who have shaped me, my parents. It all begins with their immigration to the U.S. from South America. Their bodies may have moved continents, but their mentality remained firmly planted in the values that raised them: to nurture the Earth and work alongside her, to respect our resources, and to never forget where you came from. Because of that foundation, I went on to eventually speak for those without voices, to advocate for the planet and people who inhabit it. My work is centered around curiosity, empathy, and fun, framing environmental education in a way that is approachable and accessible.

Doing Climate Communication Differently

Historically, climate communication has been left up solely to scientists. While these people are the experts in their field, they’re not always the best equipped to speak to the public about their findings or their overall work. Our society is facing a fundamental disconnect due to a lack of media and science literacy. As someone with degrees in Biomedical Science and Public Health and a passion for clear, direct communication my goal is to make this information accessible. To do so I make sure to approach climate communication with storytelling that is empathetic, curious, and fun. It’s my belief that we all want to be more community-minded, eco-minded, planet-minded, we just don’t know how, because frankly, this area has had a lot of noise both in real life and digitally.

As you may have already read above, I owe it all to my parents. They came to the United States for a better life for themselves and their future children. When I was just two years old, my dad started the “Brazilian Dive Club”, which eventually evolved into my parents purchasing a scuba diving business that was for sale in South Florida. After working nights as a respiratory therapist, my dad transitioned into full-time ownership, making the scuba diving small business our life for the next 20 years. Over the course of those 20 years, my parents established themselves as pillars in the community both from an economic perspective, but especially an ocean conservation one. Simultaneously, at home, they were composting and growing tropical fruit trees after visiting local nurseries as a family. My childhood revolved around nature and our symbiotic relationship. One of my core memories is manually pollinating passionfruit flowers in our backyard growing up alongside my parents and sister.

where it all started

Over the course of owning their business, my parents created and were part of various projects from artificial reefs, to art installations, and community events to engage and educate the public and bring a spotlight to our little beach town. I grew up in the business, working customer-facing retail and back-of-the-house shipping on-and-off for 20 years, getting my PADI Professional Divemaster certification in 2014, only deepening my reverence for the ocean. Since english is not my parents’ first language, I was often tasked with writing social media captions, as my dad was an early adopter, using social media for his business since 2009. Towards the end of their ownership, they coordinated not one, but two Guinness Book of World Record attempts: The Longest Underwater Human Chain, and the World’s Largest Underwater Cleanup (we still hold the title to this day for the Largest Underwater Cleanup!). The business was sold in November 2019, but my dedication to the ocean remains, having been a certified scuba diver now for the past 21+ years.

My college career was focused on a pre-med track. Once I got to the end of my college career, I knew that no longer was my path. My fascination with human health was halted by the understanding that we cannot have a collectively healthy population without a healthy environment and subsequent systemic change. Learning about topics like health disparities in public health continued to open my eyes to the injustice in our institutions, government, and history. I dreamed of pursuing a career in climate, specifically climate communication, but I didn’t know where to begin. That is, until 2020 when I decided to start refining my writing skills and begin leveraging them for the good of the planet, and its people. That’s when I got into copywriting and in 2021 I went full-time, supporting clients with their digital marketing. In 2023, I pivoted to focus on solely sustainable businesses and environmental organizations as part of the Conscious Content Clips team. Go Green with Alexa was started at the end of 2023, and it’s been an imperfect sustainability lifestyle account since 2024.
